Instructions for Painting Flush Mount Lenses

After you have finished mounting your lens material, it is now time to paint your lenses.

1. After you flush mount your lens, it should look like this.  The area around the lens will be sanded and the lens surface will also be dull from the sanding process.

2. Although your decal will vary, your decal should be "un-weeded" so that you can choose which lines of the decal to pull off and which to leave behind.
3. Now you can apply the decal over the flush mount light.

4. Next, remove the outside of the decal from the flush mount light.

5. Once applied, the decal will look like this.  The areas that are "masked" with the vinyl decal will be protected from the paint and will ultimately reveal the lens material once the mask is removed.  The unmasked areas will become the color of the rest of the panel.

6. Now you will paint the panel.  Once painted, the panel, decal, and lens will be covered with your paint material.
7. After the paint has flashed and before applying your clear coat, remove the masking decal from the top of the flush lens.  This picture is before clear.
8. Finally, clear the flush mount light.  The clear coat will being back the clarity of the lens material.

*Note how the area covered by the white masking in step 5 now displays the red lens.  The unmasked areas in step 5 now match the rest of the panel.
