2017+ M8 Air Cleaner

1) This is the stock air cleaner.

2) Start by removing the exterior shield.

3) Then remove the original air filter element and disconnect the air tubing.

4) Then remove the original backing plate.

5) Remove the original gasket from the original air cleaner cover.

6) And transfer it over to the throttle body spacer that's included in the air cleaner kit.

7) Disassemble the air tubing. You will reuse the curved tube and the hard plastic T-fitting.

8) This is the T-fitting that is reused.

9) Reassemble the short curved tube and the T-fitting with the custom tubing supplied in the air cleaner kit.

10) Install the banjo fitting into the tubing.

11) Install the bolts and supplied hardware as shown.

12) Then apply red loctite to the bolts that attach the air tubing.

13) And install the air tubing by routing it around the throttle body.

Torque Spec: Torque these bolts to 120-140 inch-pounds.

14) The air tubing is now installed.

15) Then apply red loctite to the three bolts that attach the throttle body spacer and the backing plate to the throttle body.

16) Next, run the air tubing through the backing plate. Then insert the three bolts from Step 15 through the backing plate and into the throttle body spacer. Tighten the bolts into the throttle body.

Note: The notch in the throttle body spacer should be aligned with the boss in the throttle body at the 8 o'clock position.

Torque Spec: Torque these three bolts to 55-60 inch-pounds.

17) Then apply blue loctite to the five air cleaner cover bolts.

18) Use bolts and the custom spacers to install the air cleaner and air cleaner cover.

Torque Spec: Torque these five bolts to 10 foot-pounds.

19) Torque the bolts in a star pattern to prevent stripping the part or cracking the clear cover.

Note: Over-torquing this hardware beyond 10 foot-pounds will crack the clear cover.

20) Finished.
